Legislative Updates

As social workers, it is imperative that we stay informed during the Oregon legislative session. Policy affects our profession, our practice, our lives and those of our clients.  As social workers, we need to be in a position to affect policy.  NASW provides an opportunity for our 1,700+ social work members to use our collective influence to make Oregon a better place to live, particularly those who struggle with poverty, homelessness, mental and physical illness, abuse and neglect, discrimination and other challenges.
NASW Oregon Chapter was very active during the 2007 legislative session. We worked closely with our contracted lobbyist, Maura Roche, to develop legislative proposals, set priorities, track bills relevant to social work practice, and prepare testimony on key bills.
The chapter's legislative committee has been very active during the legislative session, meeting with our contracted lobbyist, Maura Roche, developing our own legislative proposals and reviewing/tracking and prioritizing bills.

Help To Support Our Legislative Efforts!

In today's complex world, little is accomplished without representation in the legislative arena. Through the years, social work as a profession has become recognized as an important piece of Oregon's political structure thanks to NASW Oregon's Veteran lobbyist, Maura Roche. Maura represents only progressive, non-profit organizations. In addition to working closely with our Legislative Committee, Maura helps NASW maintain a daily presence in the Capitol during the session. However, your member dues do not cover the costs of Maura's contract. Thanks to monthly or annual donations from NASW members, our lobby fund allows us to continue contracting with Maura and strengthens our presence in Salem. Giving has never been easier!
