CHARGE

Authorization and Accountability

The Finance Committee is a standing committee mandated by the bylaws of the National Association of Social Workers.  The committee is accountable to the Board of Directors.

Standard 2.B.6  “Chapters shall have an active finance committee headed by the chapter treasurer that meets annually to review chapter fiscal policies and to develop the chapter budget.”

Purpose

The purpose of the Finance Committee is to:

1. Bring to the attention of the Board all issues regarding Chapter finances that require the Board’s consideration and action.

2. Review and submit recommendations to the Board on reports of the income expenditures  and investments of the Chapter.

3. Review and submit recommendations to the Board on any other fiscal matters  requested by the Board.

Members, Terms and Criteria

The Finance committee shall meet four (4) times per year.

The Chapter Treasurer serves as the Chairperson.  The committee consists of members at large who volunteer to serve for a period of one year.  The Board of Directors has mandated that each member must be a member in good standing of NASW.  The Finance Committee may request board approval for a non-member of NASW to serve as a “non-paid, non-voting” consultant to the Finance Committee.

Scope of Responsibility

The Finance Committee shall be responsible for the following:

  • Review and recommend approval of the annual budget.
  • Review and recommend approval  of investment strategies at least annually.
  • Review and recommend approval of fund raising efforts.
  • Communicate to the Board of Directors on all fiscal matters.
  • Coordinate financial recommendations with the Personnel Committee as appropriate.
